For this project i worked together with TNO. I had my body scanned and by use of the 'rapid prototype'-technique i got a small 3-D version of myself (35 cm high) which i used to make plaster molds for ceramic use.

Vanessa de Gruijter's project 'Homo Homini Lupus (Est)' uses the image of animals to express human cruelty. For this series of sculptures she draws inspiration from Edward Burke's philosophical ideas: the terrible and frightful as a source for the sublime - the strongest emotion a human is capable of feeling. In this work de Gruijter presents her own reflection on humanity's romantic desire for untouched utopian nature. She searches for shadows surrounding this desire, the moment where purity meets cruelty, angst and darkness. The series presents grim images, such as a bear changed into a funerary sculpture and lively apes turned black.
